EMPLOYERS’ UPDATE SEMINAR 2005 RAISES MONEY FOR CHARITY

Our annual Employers’ Update Seminar took place on Friday, 11 March, hosted by the Employee Benefits arm of NW Brown Group Ltd.

As usual, the half-day seminar covered topical employer issues. Chartered Tax Adviser, Matthew Eady, explained some problems and complications in the area of: PAYE, NIC and provided a refresher on the subject of PAYE Settlement Agreements. Director of Corporate Pensions; Ron Dart, explored the substantial changes to the world of pensions that start to take effect between April 2005 and April 2006. Director of Employee Benefits, Guy Mulley, who also chaired the event, examined a number of employer issues that have human resources, employment taxation and cost implications issues.

The highlight of the seminar was the presentation by guest speaker Josh Wies from the USA. Josh, who is a Chartered Physiotherapist and has a degree in Psychology, discussed workplace ergonomics and employee welfare. (Visit www.myphysiocambridge.com for more information.)

The seminar also raised money for two charitable causes. As Josh kindly waived any appearance fee or expense payment, NW Brown Employee Benefits was able to present Josh with a cheque for his nominated charity, the Arthritis Research Council. As it was Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day, there was a charity quiz for delegates to take part in, with a bottle of champagne for the winner. The quiz was won by Alex Knell, Company Secretary of The Automation Partnership Ltd. The delegates’ quiz entry fees, together with donations from staff, enabled NW Brown Employee Benefits to send a cheque to Comic Relief.

Next year’s Employer’s Update Seminar is scheduled to take place on Friday 10th March 2006, when one of the main topics will be age discrimination.
