State Pension Age (SPA) rises – a few facts

In March 2017 a report by the government’s actuary department suggested that workers now under the age of 30 may have to wait until 70 before they qualify for a state pension.

The State Pension Age (SPA) for women will be 65 by November 2018 and from December 2018 the SPA for both women and men will start to increase to reach 66 by October 2020.   Under current law further age increases are due to take place:

SPA 67: 2026 to 2028

SPA 68: 2037 to 2039*

*proposed in DWP review July 2017
